The PTA contributes funds and other resources to numerous other committees or events that are listed with descriptions below.

Program Descriptions:
4th & 5th Grade Agendas The PTA provides the funds to purchase agenda books for all 4th & 5th graders.
ACES Program Prizes are bought by the PTA for this program designed to encourage student exercise.
All Pro Dad’s Day All Pro Dad’s Day is a one-hour monthly breakfast held before school, where fathers and their children meet with other dads and kids in the school’s cafeteria. At this gathering, they discuss a wide range of family topics and are equipped with resources to strengthen their relationships.
Art to Remember A company takes artwork that our children make in Art at school and send us order forms to order the art as a magnet, mouse pad, t-shirt, etc. This is a fundraiser and service to our parents. PTA coordinates with Ms. Greenberg so the art is done in the first few weeks of school.
Arts Night Every other year, Ms. Greenberg organizes an evening for students’ artwork to be displayed for viewing. PTA provides the refreshments for the evening.
Back to School Social Snack social held outside or in the gym after the Open House in August. Families are asked to bring a snack to share with others. Drinks are provided by the PTA, usually by donations.
Boo Hoo Social Kindergarten parents are invited to a social on the first day of school where they can meet other kindergarten parents and cry or celebrate!
Box Tops Box Tops are collected throughout the year for various competitions - individual and class competitions. We earn 10 cents for each Box Top. Box Tops are collected weekly with competition results being updated weekly. We earn approximately $1500 - $2000 a year.
Business Products This committee oversees our Campells labels, Tyson labels, Escrip (Safeway), Escrip recycling of ink cartridges and cell phones, Scrip program (gift card ordering), and monthly fundraisers at Dominos Pizza and other eating establishments. The funds raised go to the school to help pay for new technology.
Chess Club Fifth graders (limit 20) are able to come to school one morning a week starting in February to learn to play chess. A parent and teacher are at the school to teach them.
Classroom Supplement The PTA provides each staff member up to $50 to be used for classroom supplement. The amount is prorated based on the teacher’s equivalent. The teacher does not have to join the PTA to receive the supplement.
Conference Dinner During a long conference day, PTA provides a meal for the teachers.
Die Cutters The PTA provides $200 each year to our teacher representative to purchase new die cuts.
Family Fitness Night In February, the gym and cafeteria are full of fun, fitness activity stations. Teachers and parents run the stations. A few local fitness-related businesses come in and have a station – Freedom Fitness and Karate. The Physical Education teachers have organized this so far with a PTA representative helping where needed. PTA funds what is needed.
Father Daughter Dance This committee plans a dance for our Piney Ridge girls and their fathers and/or another special male adult. The event includes a DJ, snacks, and some crafts. Tickets are sold to cover expenses.
Field Day The PTA helps fund Field Day which is planned by the Physical Education teachers.
PTA volunteers also help out with the different stations on the day of the event.
Field Trips The PTA provides $300 for each grade to help fund an educational Field Trip determined by the teachers.
Checks are written to the school with a grant form attached to cover our liability.
Fifth Grade Picnic This day-long event at the end of the school year is a celebration of the 5th graders graduation from Piney Ridge. The committee gets food donated for lunch. A DJ is hired and t-shirts are given to the kids. Sometimes donations are collected from the parents to pay for the t-shirts.
Fifth Grade Slide Show A slide show is prepared for the 5th graders for the 5th Grade Picnic.
Fifth Grade Farewell Reception A reception hosted by the 4th grade following the 5th Grade promotion ceremony.
Fourth and Fifth Grade Agendas The PTA provides the funds to purchase agenda books for all Fourth and Fifth graders.
Grandparents Day One day a year grandparents are invited to the school to sit in on their grandchildren’s classes. PTA volunteers are here to welcome grandparents, show them where the classrooms are, and provide refreshments.
Hospitality Money to pay for snacks and nametags for our PTA meetings.
Keys for Reading This annual program in the Spring, sponsored by the Frederick Keys, allows each student participant to receive a ticket to a Frederick Keys game at Harry Grove stadium for reading 4 books at his/her ability.
Market Day Parents order food from a catalog and pick it up from school on a monthly basis. The funds raised go to the school to help pay for additions to our playground.
Martins A+ Bucks Parents designate Piney Ridge on their Martin's card and Martins will donate a certain percentage of their sales to Piney Ridge. The program runs from October through April. The Martin's cards must be designated each year!
Math Committee PTA gives funds to the teachers on the Math Committee for prizes for a math competition and supplies for a night to explain math concepts to our parents.
Membership (PTA Membership) PTA builds bridges between homes and schools, integrating the efforts of parents with those of principals and teachers.
PTA’s Mission:
  1. To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in schools, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;
  2. To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and
  3. To encourage parent and public involvement in this nation’s public school system.
Mother / Son Event This committee plans an event for our Piney Ridge boys and their mothers and/or another special female adult. Tickets are sold to cover expenses.
Movie Night The PTA buys a one-time movie license to show a movie outside. Families bring blankets to sit on. FunFlicks is paid to provide the outdoor screen and popcorn. PTA volunteers sell drinks, popcorn, and snacks to offset the cost of the event. The Movie Night committee solicits donations of food and drinks to sell at the event and organizes voting for the movie choice.
National School of Excellence The Parent Involvement Schools of Excellence Certification recognizes schools who parent involvement programs are based on the National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement Programs. This certification is designed to help schools in the nation assess their parent involvement practices, making improvements were needed, and earn one of two distinctions:
  1. Certification of Excellence, for schools that have outstanding parent involvement practices in place.
  2. Recognition of Commitment, for schools that are committed to pursuing excellence in parent involvement.
Newsletter A Piney Ridge PTA Newsletter is published and distributed approximately a week after every PTA meeting. It contains information about activities going on in the PTA, a letter from the President, PTA officer information, some local non-profit community activities, and minutes from the previous PTA meeting. The publisher should come to the PTA meetings to know what should go in each issue. Committee heads submit their activity information, the president submits his/her letter, and the secretary submits the minutes. Deadlines for submission to the newsletter are the night of the PTA meeting for a hard copy or electronically by the Friday after the PTA meeting. A separate person(s) is recruited to copy the Newsletter
Newspaper Club Fourth and Fifth graders are able to work on the club to produce our award-winning Dalmation Spotlight, published three times a year. It contains information about activities going on in the PTA, a letter from the President, PTA officer information, some local non-profit community activities, and minutes from the previous PTA meeting.
Orioles Fundraiser Tickets are sold to a particular Orioles game or general tickets sold for a profit. The profits from this fundraiser go towards additions to our playground.
Parents of Piney Ridge Committee Small gifts (usually food) are given to the staff every month to show our appreciation for them.
Safety Patrol PTA contributes funds to be used to purchase badges, signs and rewards for the students who are members of the safety patrol.
School Directory A parent volunteers to gather student data for a School Directory. They organize the creation and printing of the directory for all families at Piney Ridge, regardless if they gave their information.
School Improvement Team (SIT) A team of teachers, administration, and parent representative(s) who meet approximately every other month to plan and monitor specific objectives related to the CCPS goals to improve the education of our children.
School Store Run by the Student Council with help from a parent. It is open a few mornings a week before school.
Spanish Club Children come and learn Spanish in a fun atmosphere before or after school. We have had a company come in and lead our club and also have had a parent team lead it.
Spirit Shop Sells sweats, t-shirts, shorts, magnets, replicas, ornaments, etc. to promote school spirit, usually twice a year. The goal is to be no-profit so each child can afford to buy.
Staff Appreciation Lunch The Media Center is totally transformed and a nice lunch is prepared for our teachers and staff in May during Staff Appreciation Day.
Sunshine Committee Provides birthday cards, get well cards, sympathy cards, etc. for teachers and staff.
Also obtains gifts (gift cards) and/or flowers for other special days/weeks like Secretary’s Day, Custodial/Janitor’s Week, etc.
Talent Show Held during the week before the Spring Fling to help kick off that event. Students tryout for the event after school.
Third Grade Play PTA contributes funds to support the costume expenses for the play.
Volunteer Coordinator This person recruits volunteers to help with various committees. A form is sent home to the families asking them to sign-up to help with various committees. The Volunteer Coordinator compiles this information in a spreadsheet and gives it to the appropriate committee chairman.
Welcoming Committee The Welcoming committee prepares a Welcome packet to provide to new families when they register their kids at Piney Ridge. The packet is also given to families at kindergarten orientation day. The packet contains information about the school, school mascot, school staff, PTA objectives, PTA officer duties, PTA committees, PTA officer phone list, important community phone numbers, ABC Care (childcare) information, and coupons to local restaurants.
Yearbook Committee PTA organizes and sell yearbooks that are distributed the last week of school. The chairman/committee has to organize the selling of the yearbooks and zoom as well as creatively put the yearbook together. They have to take pictures of each class for the candid pages and collect the superlatives for the 5th grade class. Deadlines have to be met throughout the year.
