PINEY RIDGE'S ANNUAL SCIENCE FAIR!!

The twelfth annual Science Fair will take place on January 20, 2012 from 7:00-8:30pm. Please sign up your children! All students are welcome to participate. Information and registration forms will be coming home soon. This information may also be found on the Science Fair page of the PTA website at www.pineyridgepta.net.


Volunteers and Visiting Scientists Needed

The Science fair committee is looking for volunteers and Visiting Scientists for the Science Fair. Volunteers are needed to work on small tasks at home, to set up and clean up, and/or assist during the science fair. Visiting Scientists are needed to observe the science fair projects, listen to the students descriptions of the projects, and to provide positive feedback. If you are interested in helping with this fun event please contact Jeremy Cooper at JeremyCooper2009@hotmail.com. Thank you!

There are two methods to register for the Science Fair. The preferred method is by sending an e-mail to Jeremy Cooper at jeremycooper2009@hotmail.com. The alternate method is to fill out the registration form and return it to school no later than January 6, 2012. If registering by e-mail, please be sure to include the child's name, T-shirt size, teacher, phone number, and project question (use the registration form as a guide).

Once you e-mail Jeremy or fill out the registration form , you are registered in the science fair. After you register, view the information packet which will include experiment guidelines and information that you will need to share with our visiting scientists.

Committee Description:
  • Participating students prepare a science fair project to be displayed on tri-fold cardboard. They submit their science questions to be published in a program. At the event three “visiting scientists” will visit each student, ask them questions about their project, and give them written positive feedback. At the end of the event each student is recognized and given a ribbon.
  • The Science Fair committee organizes this event. With its initial flyer, the committee determines which students are interested in participating. To the participating students, the committee sends home the science experiment information, t-shirt and cardboard displays, recruits “visiting scientists” (teachers and parents) to evaluate each science experiment, and prepares a printed program showing where each student’s display is to be set up. On the evening of the event, the committee sets up and breaks down the tables in the cafeteria and gym, checks in scientists, hands out brochures at the door, and provides refreshments during the event.
  • The PTA provides funds for this event.
